Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.
I think this passage highlights one very important detail: Jesus knew he was going to die. Obviously that is the point of this passage, but I think what is even more significant is the fact that because Jesus knew he was going to die he could have avoided it. Jesus prayed, in the Garden of Gethsemane, to let this cup pass from him. Jesus did not want to go to the cross. He knew the cross was coming. He could have done something to get out of it. Instead, though, Jesus went to the cross. He went there and he died that we might have salvation. Jesus knew he was going to die, and he continued on that path that we might live. What love.
