Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.
The firstborn was considered the very best, which is what God requires of us. We are supposed to hold nothing back for ourselves in our service to God. The first disciples, when they were called by Jesus, left their nets to follow Jesus, but they also left their friends, their families, their whole way of life. They did that in service to Christ. The disciples gave Jesus their very best. They should be our example. We are supposed to give Jesus our best, keeping nothing back for ourselves. Like God commanded Israel, we are supposed to "set apart for the LORD your God every firstborn male of your herds and flocks." We are supposed to set apart for the Lord our God our very best.
