Genesis 35: 1-15; Jacob Returns to Bethel

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.

"Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you." Throughout the Old Testament Israel had a problem with other gods. It really took them a while to buy into the monotheism idea. At times, they worshiped and served other gods rather than the one true God. This is the reason for the commandment, 'you shall have no other gods before me.' We don't have that problem today; we have no other gods. However, we make gods of things that we allow to get in the way of doing service to God. When we give something more attention, love, etc. than we do to God we make a god out of it. The words of Jacob to get rid of forgeing gods, and the commandment from God to not have any other gods, are important for us to hear to remind us to serve and worship God alone. God bless you,

Pastor Josh
