Luke 12: 49-53; Not Peace But Division

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.

Occasionally Jesus gives us some harsh words. Anyone who reads this passage may not think very highly of Jesus, for it seems that Jesus is interested in destroying the family unit, which was the backbone of everything in the first century. I don't think Jesus is trying to rid the world of the family unit. The division Jesus will bring will stem from the fact that there will always be those who listen to Jesus and those who will not. Jesus knows that his words are the words of life, so he cannot not speak them. Jesus will continue to preach the good news even though families, friendships, etc. will be torn apart. Jesus knows that there is salvation in his words, so he continues to speak them. Yes, there will be division. But there will also be salvation for those who listen to the words Jesus has to offer. Hear the words of Jesus, and believe, no matter what. God bless you,

Pastor Josh
