Isaiah 15: 1- 16: 14; A Prophecy Against Moab

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.

As Christians we sometimes have to deal with difficult passages such as these. In these two chapters we learn about the punishment and destruction that awaits Moab. Due to their sinful ways they are going to be punished most severely. This kind of language and action do not fall in line with the salvation and eternal life we find through Jesus; the grace that is central to the New Testament. So, how do we reconcile the two. In my mind we reconcile them by saying this is a before and after picture. Before Jesus came into the world the punishment that was visited upon Moab was something that awaited all the world: punishment for sin. But after Jesus came into the world there is no need for punishment anymore because Jesus took the punishment that should have been ours: salvation from sin. That, I think, helps us deal with these passages that focus so much on death and judgment. God bless you.
