1 Corinthians 4: 1-21; Apostles of Christ

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.

Being an apostle is tough work. Paul covers a lot of miles in his missionary journeys. He also spends a lot of time in prison. The only thing that keeps him alive so long is that he is a Roman citizen. In any case, we get the image here that being an Apostle of Christ is no walk in the park. Neither is being a disciple of Christ. Jesus tells us, 'The world will hate you because of me.' Not only that, but at various times Jesus gives his disciples a 'doom and gloom' sermon in which he describes the specific ways in which they are going to suffer. The same is true for us. We are not given an easy road. Following Jesus is very hard. What we need to keep in mind, though, is our future peace. Yes, we suffer here, sometimes in the name of Jesus. But someday our suffering will be at an end. Someday we will enter the kingdom of heaven and be delivered from our suffering. God bless you.
