1 Corinthians 1: 10-17; Divisions in the Church

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.

'A house divided against itself cannot stand.' Jesus says these words in reaction to accusations that he is in league with Satan. However, I think Jesus is also giving a lesson when he says this, that are not to split amongst ourselves. Paul knows the importance of this as well. In part, this is a reminder that we are to love one another as Christ has loved us. We are to love each other enough to work together and worship together. There is, though, a hint of self-preservation as well. Paul and Jesus both know that division leads to non-existence. If the church is going to thrive and survive we need to come together. We need to not be split up so much. The journey to this destination begins with prayer. Our prayer should be that all of our hearts should be softened enough for us to come together as one body of Christ. As Paul says, 'I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another, so that there may be no divisions among you, and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.' God bless you.
