Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.
In other words, "As long as I am with my disciples they will have no reason to be sad and fast." This is how I take the words of Jesus about fasting. For the disciples of Jesus everything is fine. They're with the Messiah, he's teaching them all kinds of useful information, and they're witnesses to God's glory in Jesus. Not to mention the fact that being the disciples of the Messiah must get some extra points (in their way of thinking). In short, the disciples are with Jesus so everything is ok. That is still true today. Jesus is still with us, which gives us a big reason to rejoice. Not only do we have someone with us everywhere we go, but that someone also happens to be the Son of God. If that is not good news I don't know what is. We will never have to fast in our sadness of being without Christ, for we will never be without Christ. He will be with us always.
