Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.
Matthew begins his genealogy with Abraham, one of the heroes of the Old Testament. This is significant because God made many promises to Abraham and those promises are brought to fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Through Jesus we have what was promised: salvation, eternal life, a personal relationship with God, and many others. The good news of the birth of Jesus is that Jesus made a reality the promises that God made to Abraham as well as the other folks from the Old Testament. Jesus is the fulfillment of the promises made in the Old Testament. God bless you.
