'My God, my God, why have yoy forsaken me.' A lot has been made of those words over the years. Did God really abandon Jesus in Jesus' final moments? Yes. God abandoned Jesus for one very important reason: Jesus took our sin. That was part of the punishment. We would have been forever forsaken by God due to our sin, but Jesus took that sin upon himself. He was abandoned, he was punished, for our sins. Jesus was forsaken by God so we would not have to be.
