Matthew 10: 1-42; Jesus Sends Out the Twelve

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.

"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the Earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." Following Jesus sometimes means we become divided from the rest of the world. Following Jesus requires sacrifice and, in some cases, suffering. Being a disciple is hard. This is what Jesus means here. He knows that there are those in the world who will hate us because of the name we preach. Jesus knows the cross we carry, for he carried it himself. Jesus knows how hard it all is because he has lived it himself. He knows the kind of opposition and suffering we will face because he has endured that himself. Jesus can help us, if we let him. Jesus can, and will, guide us through what he has called us to do. Jesus knows what lies ahead, and he wants to help us get through that. He warns us here what to expect, and offers help as we prepare for it. Heed his words, in both cases. God bless you.
